Creating Abstract Lines on Silk

Photo by Marlene Crawford, Technique by Marilyn Zensen

Recently one of our art educators attended a meeting with the Yokayo Guild of Textile Artists in Mendocino County, and came back with a really cool technique for creating abstract lines on silk, as pictured above.  Instead of using an applicator bottle or a paint brush to create outlines, use a small twig! Look for one that is straight and sturdy with a rounded end, where a new cane would start. Dip it in a contrasting color, and trace around your image(s). The result will be a line that ebbs and flows, with a gorgeous abstract effect.
